Safer than Intrinsically Safe?

Intrinsically Safe Relays are used in hazardous environments, providing a reliable means of controlling equipment that operates with electrical circuits in potentially explosive atmospheres. These devices are understood to be the industry standard for safety and hazard prevention, but is there an even safer option?

Switching to Safer

The Opti-Float device a testament to Cox Research’s commitment to innovative technology, as it not only resolves the recurring challenges of failed floats in lift stations but also provides a safer and more efficient alternative to intrinsically safe relays. But how?

The genius of the Opti-Float lies in its mechanism, which eliminates the risk of sparking entirely, instead using a beam of light to indicate whether or not the float is engaged. With no electricity present during its operation, the float ensures maximum security in even the most challenging environments. The device’s safety measures extend to its cable design as well. Cox Research opted away from conventional rubber-based blends to 100% polyurethane material, further eliminating the risk of sparks and providing a flame-resistant, flexible, and long-lasting solution.

How the Opti-Float was Invented and Brought to Market

As the Cox Research team approached the final stages of R&D, they received a call from The City of Cincinnati inquiring about the status of their Opti-Float device. The City was seeking a solution for their lift station level detectors and had remarkably found Cox Research's pending patent while while exploring the US patent and trademark office repository.

With their idea in demand, the Cox team swiftly progressed to present the first prototype. Cincinnati was quick to embrace the Opti-Float, leading to the replacement of numerous lift stations. While they maintained intrinsically safe relays as backups, the Opti-Float became the primary choice for level control in other stations due to its unparalleled reliability and inherent safety features.

Committed to Community

Cox Research's unwavering dedication to creating a safer and more efficient world is epitomized with the Opti-Float level detection device. By providing a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional level detector devices, Opti-Float is transforming the wastewater industry one community at a time.
